Contribute to the Foundation
One person alone – or even one organization – cannot do the job. That’s why the Naomi Ruth Cohen Charitable Foundation works hard to “leverage” your contributions. We work with other knowledgeable organizations to maximize our effectiveness in fighting the stigma associated with mental illness –
- The 2006 Community Mental Health Conference had 110 sponsors – religious, academic, mental health and other organizations from throughout the Chicago area – working with us to make the Conference a great success. Check our website, www.naomicohenfoundation.org, to see the wonderful response we had from participants. The June 3, 2007 Conference promises to be another exciting and informative program. We will address mental health and the family and feature outstanding speakers: Dr. William Beardslee of Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard University, Dr. Froma Walsh of the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and Center for Family Health, Ruth Field, the co-founder and former president of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation, and Father Charles Rubey of the Catholic Charities LOSS Program. Each year our Conference provides a rare opportunity for professionals, affected individuals, families, and the lay community to learn and interact with each other.
- We partnered with Mt. Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church of Evanston to hold a May 2006 Conference on Depression in the African-American Community. There were 100 attendees and, according to Mt. Zion Pastor Bentley, “very positive” feedback and pointing participants “in the direction to seek help if they need to.”
- We funded the fourth annual Mental Health Association of the North Shore Teen essay contest to give teens an outlet for expressing their emotional and mental health concerns. Ninety-five essay were submitted from 15 different area high schools.
- We continued the Foundation fellowship at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology which is awarded to an advanced clinical Psy.D. student who intends to work to combat the stigma associated with mental illness.
- Contributions to the Foundation are used only for programming.
Our programs are made possible only with your help.
